Overall, I was pleased. Daniel Craig could make a decent Bond. The first half of the movie is some of the best Bond to date. Some people enjoy watching poker but I am not one of them. I find it as enjoyable as watching golf or the grass grow. Once the poker tournament starts things slooooooooow way down but kinda pick up afterwards (though the movie is basically over with).
Its a litte long in the tooth but I can deal with that. The one major flaw was one of the reasons I went to see the movie (other then being a Bond fanatic): Eva Green. First, I find her utterly and fantasically gorgeous with a supremely wonderful body but the girl couldnt act to save her life. Though, my jaw dropped during the changing/bathroom scene before the tournament. Seeing her in that white robe almost made up for the rest of the movie
Misc aspects: I always enjoy the Bond car chase but there was none (though a good chase at the beginning). The Bond song (sung this time by Chris Cornell) was acceptable. Nothing grand or outstanding.
Embarrsing Moment:
Marketa Brymova, my baby, is an extra in the tournament scenes (she looked good). I saw this with my father and the first time I saw her I blurted out, "Holy Shit! Thats Marketa B!" I had to explain to my father after the movie that Marketa is a little known European arthouse actress I saw in a couple of movies.

I've just seen it. What can I say. Speechless!!
Opening credits, superb! Very retro 60's.
Beginning action sequences, breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat stuff.
Eva Green is EXACTLY as imagined her to be in the novel. Le Chiffre, suitably slippery, and again, pretty much how I imagined him to be in the novel. I'm pretty much lost for words on the film. It took me by complete surprise. I was worried as I had high expectations anyway, but this actually surpassed it (never thought that would be possible). From the card game onwards unfolds pretty much like it does in the novel. It was great seeing moments from Fleming's work again, only this time how it should have been done all along. With REALISM!!! Out are the crappy one-liners, stupid jokes and silliness. In is hard-edged, bloody, brutal action and realistic dialogue - something that I have never witnessed before in the films, only in the novels.
And last but not least, Daniel Craig himself. How does he rate. In one word, BRILLIANT! He barges his way right the way through this movie, Maximus-Gladiator style. Relentless, ruthless, violent, vulnerable and believable. Again, he surpassed what I expected of him. If anyone had doubts about Craig before as Bond you needn't worry.
I am still in a state of absolute shock right now. After many years, I've finally seen Ian Fleming's James Bond on screen, in all his true, bloody glory. THE TORTURE SCENE IS FUCKING AWESOME...
Daniel, don't you dare walk away from this franchise now. EON, lock this man up and keep him from straying away. You have struck pure gold with this one!!!!!
9.5 out of 10.

lol
Nice cover haha.
I thought the movie was good. It starts out really fast but gets kinda slow towards the middle. The plot was pretty simplistic, not grandiose like it usually is.

I think Casino Royale 2006 was the best yet of the James Bond series. It completely reinterpreted Bond and I like this more realistic and ruthless Bond, while still maintaining the cool, sexy ladies man thing. Even that was done in a new way without all the silly names and mono-dimensional female characters.
My question as I was watching it was "would this film stand up if it were not a James Bond flick?". I'm not sure.
However, I think Daniel Craig might someday be considered the best Bond ever. Especially loved the end line: Bond, James Bond. What a finale . . . leaving us wanting more.

Haven't seen the film yet...but I've seen Daniel Craig in smaller roles, in other films. He reminds me a lot of Sean Connery at that age. Distinguished, but with a rugged macho edge to him.
Eva Green's a good-looking woman. I suppose she'd make a good Bond babe.
Funny thing is, the more I learned about espionage, the less I liked 007 films.
I mean think about it. Bond is a professional assassin working for MI-6, yet he uses his real name all the time, and travels to remote parts of the world, clad a in a tuxedo, where he's virtually the ONLY Caucasian around!
In the real world, such a man would last about 48hrs at best.
But I've heard really good things about his film. I'll probably have to get it on DVD when t comes out.

OK. I just saw the flick.
DAMN!!!! That's the first Bond film I've really enjoyed since Connery's days. I liked the re-vamped 007. He's got more personality and depth of character. He laughs, cries, and can kick ass like it was his favorite pastime.
When he killed the white guy in the men's room, early on, it was an old-fashioned beat-down. No fancy Hollywood choreography. He just whooped that boy to death!
When he got ambushed by the African dude in the stairwell, about halfway through the film, I loved how he slipped in behind and killed him with a choke hold.
The action scenes were great. Not so unrealistic as they were in previous films. Seems like they went back to basics. Like when he rolled the Aston Martin, it fell apart, and so did he.
Bond can actually feel PAIN!!!! Who saw that coming?
Yeah. Danny Craig's 007 is a baaed (hush your mouth!) mofo!!!
I like this 're-imagined' version. I hope he hangs with it for a while. I could get used to seeing more films like this.

i finally saw this film and I enjoyed it. I thought Daniel Craig is a great Bond, and we finally see 007 that is gritty and realistic, not too over stylized like previous Bonds. However the the non-action parts seemed to really lag. Too much emphasis on the Poker scenes (Hey, I love watching REAL poker, but movie poker is always predictable) and the overemphasis on the love story. Although I loved the chemistry between Eva and Daniel, a few of the scenes were too lovey-dovey and took me out of the movie. (But it does set up future Bonds well) Overall I would give it an 8.5 out of 10, and look forward to the next one.

Wow, they all look like good reviews. I was wondering how Daniel Craig would go at being Bond. Sounds like he did a bang up job.
Will have to go check it out at the cinema.

Weirdly paced movie, I thought. Started off at 1000 mph, thrills and spills, then degenerated into two hours of poker.
I quite liked it, though. Pierce Brosnan was always a bit of a cheese-ball with his catch-phrases and knowing looks - Daniel Craig's Bond at least seems less of a cartoon character.

yeah, I still wonder why Eva Green won the casting, perhaps Lisa Boyle was not interested in taking part in the new Bond movie...:D

Daniel Craig makes a good Bond, but I still think dour Timothy Dalton is the truest to Ian Fleming's character.
