View Full Version : Does anyone else think it's been a bad year for refs?

Today's admittance of an error that cost Missouri a potential win against Iowa State was the latest in a slew of bad calls that started in the NFL playoffs and culminated in two of sports' biggest events--the Super Bowl and NBA finals. And please don't mention the Oklahoma-Oregon game that led to death threats and a request to REMOVE the game from the record books. If that's the case, you could wipe out every event that happened this calendar year because of disgusting officiating. To hear that it happened to Missouri is just saddening, considering they've been the victims of Tyus Edney, the 5th down, and the kicked-ball in the end zone.

maybe it's just me but specially down here in australia it's basically not a year in sport if it's NOT a bad year for ref's people in the job of making a choice during a game are foretold to screw up, they can't see everything in perfect context..

I just heard about the very bad Missouri call. What's so sad about it is that it not only cost us the game, but it probably cost us a better bowl game, and hence more money. The refs issued an apology, but so what?! If they were truly sorry, they would give us back that score and the win!

Don't even get me started on the infamous "fifth down" game. :102:

Overall, I would say that you are right about the refs having an awful year. Even the World Cup officials were awful at times (the Italian/Australian match comes immediately to mind). Bad calls cost the Seahawks the Super Bowl. What is so hard about finding and retaining good referees? Are they not paying them enough?
