I have my old one still running as well. Curious as to what is the easiest way to transfer files from the old to the new? Both have internet.:007:

Are you behind a hardware firewall/router? if so the then just setup file and print sharing and copy files over. :D

file-sharing would work. whatever you do, stay away from any data-transfer software. IMO they tend to copy a lot of useless crap. i would burn the necessary files to an HD (or DVD even) and then hook that HD up to your new PC (either inside or get an external case for around $20) and then copy over what you need. i wouldn't worry about any software as you can probably find whatever you need in the latest version here or if you have the original discs, just reinstall them onto your new system.

If you have Windows XP Pro, I would suggest the "Microsoft Backup Utility"

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup

Easy to follow wizard, you can even save your personal settings such as I.E favourites, desktop background etc.

Make sure your destination computer has the backup utility as well, you can than initiate the "restore file and settings mode".

From what I'm aware of only XP Pro has this option, so make sure both computers are running XP Pro, if not than I would suggest Andean Highlander/T's ideas.

If you don't want to use up your blank DVD's use Jiffs idea lol.
