I know there are a number of computer/internet savvy people who visit this fine forum and I am asking a favor of them. I need an installable version of the latest version of Media Player Classic. Can someone help me out? Much appreciated. Thanks

Media Player Classic was created and is currently maintained by a programmer named "Gabest". Gabest originally developed Media Player Classic as a closed-source application, but later decided to make it open source. Media Player Classic is licensed under the GPL and has its own SourceForge project called Guliverkli.

Sir,
First, thank you. Second, I found that site and downloaded that or something very similiar to your recommendation. What I download is just an .exe file. It doesnt install anything so I am a little perplexed/confused on how to use this then. Am I doing something wrong? Again, my thanks!

Yea, the zip contains just an .exe file. Open the .exe and it should start.

That's all you need to start Media Player Classic... you don't have to install it like other programs

I dont mean to be a complete dolt but how do I get vids to play on that then? Your help has been appreciated, sir!

If you want vids to use MPC as default player then:
Open MPC => View => Options... => Formats => Check the file extensions you want MPC to use as default (e.g. MPEG4 file, Video file, Windows Media file, etc.) => Apply
That should be it, if it still doesn't work then you will probably have to go to the options of the current default player (the one it's opening to) and uncheck the file types/extensions of it.

If the vids are still opening to another player (eg Windows Media Player 11) and you don't know how to uncheck the file types/extensions then I can provide steps for this as well.

Another method is:
Go to My Computer => Tools => Folder Options... => File Types => Select the Extension you want to change => Change => Browse => Select MPC
Make sure 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'

looks like you need some codecs...

I would get K-Lite Codec Pack, it comes with the newest version of MPC. I used to use this but I've stuck with Windows Media Player 11

K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs, DirectShow filters and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even some rare formats.

The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:

* It it always very up-to-date with the newest (and/or best) versions of the components.
* It is very user-friendly.
* The installation is fully customizable, meaning that you are able install exactly those components that you really want.
* Uninstallation removes all files and registry entries created by the pack.
* It is extremely easy to make a fully customized unattended installation.
* It has been very well tested, so that the package doesn't contain any conflicting or buggy codecs.
* It tries to avoid potential problems with existing codecs and even fixes some problems. The pack is able to detect broken codecs and filters on your system, and remove them for you.
* It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies.
* There are different packages. From small to extra-large.
* Suitable for both novice and expert users.

But the video is opening to the right version? The screen is black because I was taking a screenshot but I can probably use an update on my codecs. Thanks for the info!

Hey, I just realised that screenshot showed it was opening to the older version of MPC. The newest one should be 6.4.9.0
The screenie is showing 6.4.8.9
