HDTV vids - need a new codec?

I wonder if it is necessary to have special codecs or a special monitor to see these kind of movies and clips . There are a lot of movies in HDTV format and I do not know if my simple hardware can support this new formats

Depends in which codec they are coverted to...use g-spot or just dl the codecpack k-lite...
