I went into a local music store to buy some strings today.
I remember thinking to myself "What harm could it do to go check out the guitars while I'm here"
I guess in the strictest sense of the world, I did manage to buy a set of strings - unfortunately they came attached to a rather expensive plank of wood :(

http://www.keepmyfile.com/download/a6d58c868971 for a sample that I just recorded the second I walked in the door - I should probably actually learn the song except for just playing around with it though... I always liked it

:043: Congrats, that's pretty sweet. :064:
What would you suggest for a guys first electric ?

I plink around on an acoustic right now.
I've lowered the bridge, but still, it's a bitch to play.

Aw, a LTD Viper. Now THATS a nice addition. Are those EMG's, come on I feel the sustain from here, yummy.

Congratz. Well worth the seperation of money. Hehe.

I'm not sure when, maybe in around 6 months, I will help delievery this addition into my family:

I've been eyeing. It's been calling, I swear.

Swann I would recommend: a Jay Turser, http://www.jayturser.com/default.html

Make good guitars for cheap, around $200, maybe more or less. I don't own one, my first guitar was a 1974 Fender Stratocaster, and Jay Turser models are basically just cheaped down copies of those.

My second guitar was a 61' Gibson SG Reissue. Pretty high class, it now sits in D tuning, when I really wanna hammer out the heavy.

Then I have a few Acoustics, a Spanish Classical and a Regular one. The regular one was used as a weapon, on purpose. Classical one lies around, dust collector.

Lastest baby, the LTD KH-202. Heres a pic of it looking pretty, I'm not as brave as Bladders, jumping right in the spotlight there.

I need tips on making my recordings sound better so then I can put some up.

I'm using a SHITTY computer mic, and my amp like destroyes it, with all that gain and feedback and Wah and Whammy.

HELP!

That's so close to the Jackson Randy Rhoads Flying V - Even the fret inlays - how much is the Jackson vs. the ESP, I wonder?
I've not tried any of those guitars.
edit - yeah: EMG 81 in the bridge, 85 neck, different from my Explorer which is an 85 in the bridge

Computer recording is a special baby
I know a few guys who are having trouble with it, yet think I've got it good with my Line6 Guitar Port
I can't recommend it enough for straight guitar amp emulation
Still don't have a decent recording program, but that'll come with time - if I can stop buying guitars :p

AS for acoustic vs. electric - it's all a state of mind:

Acoustic versions of my favourite Metallica song (recorded a few weeks ago on a whim) - no edits - mistakes a plenty :011:
As for a guy's first electric - my PERSONAL recommendation is to spend as much money as you can afford on your hobby.
It all depends on what you want to play, really.
My guitars are pretty much geared towards hard rock/heavy metal
My Gibson Explorer cost me $1200 plus whereas my new LTD Viper cost me roughly $800 cdn
They seem pretty equivalent to me, both sound/playability wise. Both = teh rOxXorZ!!!!
For yourself, I suspect you're into more moderate rock, like the Pink Floyds.
You're probably looking for a Fender sound - the stratocaster or the telecaster.
You can pick up a Squier version of any Fender guitar - Squier is the brand name for overseas constructions of American Fender models. These are pretty inexpensive - there are good guitars to be had, but they're kind of hit and miss at times - you'll need to really try out your guitar before buying it.
Also - Fender in particular has an assembly plant in Mexico - these are guitars made with the exact same parts/supplies as the American (good) versions, but at a fraction of the cost. I have a Mexican Telecaster and couldn't be happier with the result. $800 bucks vs $1600 back when I bought it, many many moons ago. I love it.
If you're looking for a cheap guitar - I would recommend really playing it, making sure you're cool with it first. My first electric guitar was a piece of crap - the action was almost unplayable, and yet I loved it, cause I didn't know any better.

I was looking at Line 6 ports, but they are expensive.

And I just record as a hobbie, I might get into being a Studio Muscian one day, but I need to learn more theory first :)

True, I'm just saying it's expensive for something I'm not going to use everyday.

I mean I can lay 1,000 bucks into parts for a car, but I drive them all the time.

Or maybe 50 bucks into video games, but thats like 70 hours of enjoyment.

Well I guess I'll go buy a Line 6 USB thingy.

I use it all the time. I get a riff or lick in my head and i just go trecord it so I don't forget. Very useful if you ask me.
