I might be in the minority here, but I try to read as much as possible. If you have read something recently, give a review here.
John Adams by David McCullough.
This is an amazing book. It is a window in time that allows the reader to see the conflicts and personalities of the people we American's consider hero's and founding fathers.

1776: Also by David McCullough.
This book deals with the pivitol year of 1776 and just how close the United States of America was to remaining under British Control. Great book and made me proud of my ancestors.

Freakanomics: By Steven Levitt & Stephen Dubner.
This book is unreal. Levitt is somewhat of an idiot savant and looks at issues such as "why crack dealers live with there mom's" and "how Row V Wade reduced crime in America". Some parts are a little slow, but overall this book is a good read.

Boy, I can't believe more people haven't chimed in with this killer thread. Ha.
Charlie Wilson's War:
The true story of how an alcholic, womanizing congressman from Texas funded and drove the Russian's out of Afganistan.
*****
It is also being made into a movie right now.

Angels & Demons...
...was written by Dan Brown before The DaVinci Code and in my opinion is a better book. It deals with the politics of the Catholic Church and with their interesting history with the Illuminatti. Check it out (especially if you are a fan of Dan Brown already).

Darkest Fear by Harlan Coben
Explore the world of a man called on by his ex to help save her son from a mad kidnapper and surpisingly discovers that this kid is his son as well. It was a suspenseful story, really got me thinking.

i just read Haunted by Palinuik. I'm a big fan of his other books. and although this one wasn't as good as some of his other ones, its still creepy and worth checking out. Its basically 20 or so short stories written by these people who thought they were going on a writers retreat but ended up being trapped.

I'm usually more into, well... higher-leveled reading, if I can say that (no idea, english's not my major language...) and so, at the moment, i'm reading Doktor Fausts by Thomas Mann, which is an awesomely written book, but pretty hard to understand and I dont even try to claim that I understood a lot about the musical theory....
but definitely worth giving it a try

Does anybody like fiction / sci fi? If yes I have a series of free e-books from the baen collection given out during the worldebookfair last fortnight.
most of the books are pretty heavy and vague. However some of them are real entertaining - almost as hard to let go as dan browns novels.
Interested? Let me know and I will post them.

Philip Dick's The World Jones Made is a good sci-fi book. Not one of his better-known novels, but I thought it was a pretty decent read. Some interesting philosophical discussions in here, mainly on how one individual can effect change.

I'm reading up on a lot of fiction, including sci-fi. I prefer to hold my books, but if I get a Palm Reader one of these days, then a .pdf version would sure be nice! What books do you have?

Do you mean in the gutter board or in the book?

It can be argued that it's true in both cases :p
I'm not all wild about most scifi books, but there are a few exceptions like the one I mentioned. ;)

Angels and Demons and the DaVinci code were both very good, but i liked Angels and Demons a little more
Also Jimmy Buffett's 3 or so books are pretty good. They basically follow the same character who drops everything and spends life island hopping down in the caribbean

I have quite a few books out of which I still have to read about half.
The most notable e-books I liked were
1. Sisters of Glass
2. Born to run
3. Digital Knight
4. wibiz
5. Antigrav unlimited
6. A hymn before the battle
Let me know if you guys want them (they were freely distributed on the net during the world e-book fair. So shdnt have any issues sharing).
And where do I post the links? in this thread itself??

I guess it appllies to both but it applies more to the former.
Surprising how you suddenly find that folks that ogle at nude babes enjoy some arcane (in todays world) hobby like reading and that too deep sci-fi etc. :-D

A few of these I was able to find on the web (#1, 3, 5 and 6), or at least they still are at this moment online. I think you can post a link to the books here, but at least do a review also! That way we'll have an idea of what they're all about. I had no inkling of what to expect from these books until I did a simple Google search. Actually I still have no idea about #2 or #4. :039:

I remembered Alison Lohman was in the movie, and I saw her on the cover of the book in the picture. Couple that with the word "White" being visible, and I got the name ;)

His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
Let me start by saying I thoroughlly enjoyed this book. It's a fantasy/alternative history book that takes place during the Napoleonic Wars. Historically accurate, good writing, good story. Oh yeah, and dragons. The premise is that dragons have been domesticated by man and are used as weapons of mass destruction (sorry, I had to). Like I said, I really enjoyed this book (which is the first of three so far) and would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fantasy and/or historical novels. Also read recently on aintitcoolnews.com that Peter Jackson haas picked up the movie rights to present and future books in the series.
