Riddled with all the rib tickling pisstakes and song set pieces you`d expect from the South Park creating duo.
North Korean head honcho,Kim Jong 11 in particular gets a roasting and provides all the best laughs and is the absolute fucking star of this one for me.

First time viewing,no way I`d buy it but I`ll probably catch it again in a year or four.

Not bad.

After seeing the Proposition last week, I was in the mood for a gritty, violent western so I re-watched Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch last night. One of the greatest westerns ever, and as good of a movie as you'll ever likely to see. A perfect cast for a western--William Holden, Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Strother Martin--and fantastic performances all around, particularly by Holden & Ryan. The action scenes are legendary (the opening and closing shoot-outs are nothing short of phenomenal) and sandwiched in between is tremendous character development of guys watching their way of life disappearing right before their eyes. And it has one of the most perfect endings I've ever seen. I honestly can't think of a single thing I'd change in this movie.

Don't know how you compare comedies, but it was hella funny.

** Possible Spoilers**

There was a tad of nudity, a dude whacking it to a barbie and that scene ends like :013: , a fucking lion, a kung fu monkey, lots of weed, and a bronze dude from all Adam Sandler's movies.

QUOTE:
Hey man why are you getting a Lion?
To protect my shit.
Haven't you never heard of a dog?
Yeah but someone can get passed a dog... Dude, nobody fucks with a lion...:021: :021: :021:

This is simply one of the most crap of films I`ve had the mis-priviledge of sitting through in a loooooooooooooooooooong time.
I actually started watching this two months back and have heaved myself back three or four times to try and finish and have still failed.
Endless, fucking pointless meandering through fields and woods with.....

Saw The Omen Wednesday. Not a bad remake. I liked how they linked recent events to the coming of the son of Satan. I went in expecting the acting to be bad so that didn't disappoint me,but what did was the use of modern day scare tactics(ie large volume increases and quick off screen entrances). I loved the original. Although it might be slow for todays movie crowd, I thought it was much more scary. I could FEEL the evil, something this flick lacks. Aside from the fact I can't stand Julia Stiles, I'll give this one 6.66/10.

Like the previous three installments,Part 4 here is extremely predicable if you`ve seen all the flicks it rips.
Like those,it has it`s moments but plenty more non-moments too.
Anna Faris is still the funniest thing about this franchise for me but the rewatch factor is still pretty much non-existant
(don`t think I`ve ever watched any of the others twice).

I agree Hayden isnt that good. But i thought he did a way better job in this one than the Attack of the Clones. I'll take Ep.3 Hayden over Ep.2 Hayden. I also agree that the acting was better in the orginal trilogy. The action is better in this one than the rest. Im not gonna let one actor doing not too good of a job ruin the whole movie for me. Ive seen some good/great actors do suck jobs in movies. A lot of people i know that grew up during the old trilogy that went to go see the movies back in the 70's & 80's say this one is as good or maybe even better than the Empire Strikes Back and i was pretty shocked they said that. I think what helps this movie also is the fact that its not PG and its the darkest one of the six. By PG it wasnt kiddy like.

I was that dissapointed with the first two seq/prequels that I haven`t even bothered to watch this one,if I ever do,I`ll be surprised if it passes a 6 for me.

BTW,you certainly rack up a lot of movie miles throughout the week http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/fernsehen_2.gif

Believe me as a Star Wars fan i was dissapointed with the first two new ones also except the action. If your dissapointed after watching this one compared to the other two somethings wrong. This one blows away the other two and i think its up their as one of the best of the six. In some cases the old ones acting sometimes wasnt that good either. Hayden Christensen even though i dont like him does a better job in this one than the last one. If u like Star Wars at all u should like this one. The action in this one i think is the best of the series. The reason the rating i gave is also high is cause i been a Star Wars fan since i was basically born and i said i was being a little biased with the rating, cant u tell by my avatar.:004: But what i said above the action and his acting is better than the last.
Lately if im at home and nothings on the TV which there usually isnt i been trying to watch or go see a movie. I'll even watch movies i dont even want to see jsut check em out for at least a one time viewing but not in theaters i only go see movies i want to see if its at the theaters..

I ended up seeing Hostel and it wasn't even as gruesome as I thought it would be. They kinda shyed(sp?) away from the actual torture. but it was actually a good movie. Lots of nice knockage.

"16 Blocks"
(2006)

http://img1.imagetitan.com/img1/1/21/1026361m.jpg

Also found myself enjoying "16 Blocks" the other day,but it was on the verge of being completely ruined for me by the brain grating warbles coming out of Mos Def`s gob....man,what a fuckin annoying accent they had him put on.

That aside, his performance is good but Brucie in particular is pure class as a downbeaten, drunken,on the brink of retirement cop who has to babysit Def the 16 Blocks to a courthouse to testify against the "bad guys",unbeknownst to Bruce, some fellow cops, one of which being his former partner.

No oustanding memorable action set pieces in it,but worth a sit down,a feet up and a hour and half or so.

7/10

This movie was pretty fucking funny. It had some stupid shit in here but it had some shit that was a fucking hilarious. There were a good amount of scenes in here were it took me a while to stop laughing. Really liked the part where hes jacking off to a plastic doll in the bathroom and his friends mom walks in and catches him then he spooges all over her. I probably end up buying this. 8/10.

Match Point...latest Woody Allen flick. 8/10. Definitely worth a rent. A couple very good performances, Scarlett Johansen, and while the plot gets away from itself a bit, it does all come back together in the end. One of those films where I did find myself slapping my forehead at the end, admiring the writing.

Deep Blue
http://img7.imagevenue.com/loc47/th_62325_lg_32183.jpg

Cast: Michael Gambon, Pierce Brosnan

Plot Outline: Diving into the unexplored liquid space that exists just beneath the surface of our planet, Deep Blue takes audiences to awesome realms where humans, and especially cameras, have rarely dared to go: darting with lightning speed through fierce schools of sharks, riding over stormy waves with massive killer whales, fighting for survival with families of polar bears and seals, and even plunging into pitch-black chasms that are home to wild, alien-like creatures so rare they have never been seen before on film.

This movie was awesome. I have been waiting for them to release it. The special features are outstanding. There is a 1 hour long how it was made. They did 3000 days of shooting. Amazing High Definition Picture quality. I love these kinds of Documentaries. And Pierce Brosnan did a great job on the naration. I definityl recomend this one. Good for the kids to if you have them. Very interesting.

This was to me the best one so far of the Harry Potter series. Its nothing i'll watch over but if your a Potter fan you'll probably like this. This movie is like a set up to the next installment. Its the darkest movie so far in the series and usually the darker movie in a series like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings is usually the best. i'm sorry to say that i was completely disappointed with this one. i was hoping for too much i guess 'cause i really enjoyed the first one. it was as if they tried to cram too much story into not enough time. you never really got the chance to get into any of the characters. i won't be buying this one. 4/10 just because it had Kate and some cool scenes.

if ya think about it none of the scary movies out are scary. none that i can think of at the moment.
soo true. The Descent has thus far been the best movie i've seen in the last few years. i'm dying for a good scare or a really good sci-fi. i might check out Ultraviolet just to see how the movie was done. tonight we're gonna give WASC a try since i have it downloaded.

This movie was alright for a one time viewing. Not as good as the original and not as scary like. The babysiiter chick was pretty hot. 5.5/10.
ok, we finally sat down to watch this tonight... blah blah blah... WEAK! i thought this movie dragged on and on and then what a weak ending. the girls were hot as hell though. 3/10 ;)

I thought Underworld 2 was better. I guess it was more intriging to me. I thought they went into enough of the characters cause most of them were in the first one. Plus it showed some of the people in the past. The Descent hasnt came out over here yet but i seen a preview for it on tv the other night and that movie looked pretty freaky. So i would like to check that out. Now that i think about it i agree with your rating on When a Stranger Calls. My rating i guess was higher cause i thought that chick was pretty hot but im not gonna base a rating on that kind of shit anymore. I seen movies with way hotter chicks that i would give a one.

Saw this movie the other night and it was very underwhelming. They totally ruined the character. It definitely does not live up to all the hype it's getting. I would give it a 6 out of 10 only because it did have cool special effects.

This movie was a true story and about Jackie DiNorscio a member of the New Jersey Lucchesi crime family and it was the longest Mafia trial in U.S. history. This movie wasnt too bad for a courtroom drama and this Jackie guy defends himself and him and his whole family are found not guilty. Jackie still had to stay in prison cause he was there for an earlier charge. This guy did pretty good defending himself and he was pretty funny also but that would get him into trouble. It was slow at times like most trial movies but it was good. 7.5/10.

I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean tonight, and it was a major disappointment. It's not a bad movie as much as it is an unenthusiastic and boring one. The whole thing was phoned in, like they were just going through the paces. Johnny Depp was pretty obviously collecting a paycheck (not that I hold it against him to grab the biggest payday of his career), and wasn't anywhere near as much fun to watch as he was in the original, and the same can be said for the whole picture. The villain is a masterpiece of special effects, but otherwise he was just lame & couldn't compare with how funny and crazed Geoffrey Rush was. The plot, what little there is of it, is paper thin and doesn't actually get started for the first 30 or 40 minutes of the movie, and 2 1/2 hours is at least a half-hour too long for an adventure movie. Plus, it ends with a cliffhanger to set up the third movie (a la The Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions), but to get there, they have Keira Knightly do something that's so out of character and downright evil it comes straight out of left field. There's tons of action, but it was almost all boring, not exciting, and was either so silly and over the top I was rolling my eyes, or was so soaked in special effects I couldn't tell what was going on. I always thought the first movie was so much fun because of Johnny Depp, but leaving the theater after this one, I realized I was only half right--it was fun because of Johnny Depp AND Geoffrey Rush, and I really missed Captain Barbossa this time around.

Metal : headbanger's day

Don't blame me, but I prefer the French translation of the title Metal : Voyage au Coeur de la B?te that we could re-translate in English like this : Metal : Deep Inside the Beast ! ooooh yeah

Synopsis : in 1986, heavy-metal became the most famous music around the world, and in a lot of places, the young had long hair and made the evil sign with their fingers. But this was not seen with a good eye by some people...Metal bands and their musicians were accused to push young to suicide or to murder, heavy metal became the new enemy, and heavy metal fans were rejected by society.
Sam Dunn, anthropologist and fan of this music style and phenomenon, decided to travel all around the world to understand why this music has been so long stereotyped and critisized and still loved by million fans on Earth.......a trip deep inside the Beast !

8/10

A good movie to see if you're fan or if you only want to understand this music !

I saw Miami Vice a couple of weeks ago (the day it came out, actually). Not as good as most Michael Mann movies, but a pretty solid old-school action flick (well, there's only a couple of action scenes, so I guess it's more of a crime drama). As with all Michael Mann movies, it has a cool vibe, looks great, and has excellent action scenes. The plot's your basic undercover cop stuff, and isn't anything special (Crockett & Tubbs inflitrate a Columbian drug lord's operations by posing as smugglers). There's a subplot about Crockett having a fling with Chinese actress Gong Li, but unfortunately, that pushes Tubbs into the background for a big chunk of the pic. Actually, a lot of the plot is taken from a couple of episodes of Mann's tremendous but short-lived cop show Robbery Homicide Division that lasted about a month a few years back, but since I'm probably the only person who watched it, it really doesn't matter. It's a pretty long movie (about 2 1/2 hours) but it moves along well so I really didn't notice, and both Colin Farrell & Jamie Foxx are good as the leads. I was kind of let down, since Michael Mann's one of my absolute favorite directors working these days, and Miami Vice isn't on the same level as his best movies--Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans, Heat, the Insider, or Collateral--but it's still pretty solid.

Superman Returns in IMAX 3D

Well I maybe late with this one, but I finally saw the movie last night. I really didn't have much of an urge to see this, was going to wait for the video, but a girl I know wanted to see it.

What was cool though was I was able to see it in an IMAX theater and some parts of the movie were in 3D. The 3-D effects are amazing, although far too short. The movie uses a polarized 3-D process, which means no annoying magenta/cyan colored glasses that rob the movie of glorious colors. Unfortunately only four scenes in the movie are presented in 3-D (the flashback of Clark as a younger boy, the plane rescue, the boat rescue, and Superman’s final flight). While incredibly immersive, the disruption going in and out of 3-D mode, requiring the viewer put on and remove their IMAX 3-D glasses, is a bit distracting. If the whole movie had been presented in 3-D, the concept would have been a completely different movie.

Don't know if it was the movie, the IMAX 3D effect, or the girl I was with but the movie was better than I was expecting, considering all the review I've read about it.

8/10 (because of the 3D sequences)

Watched this last night, not outstanding but very good clocking in at a potential achey arse aching 2 1/2 hours, but it really didn`t feel like it,which is usually the sign you`ve enjoyed a flick.
DiCaprio (who I`ve always rated) is superb as is,as expected Mr.Nicholson, but I think the best performance is from Mark Walhberg as no-nonsense Sgt.Dignam.
Even two guys I usually don`t like,I enjoyed,Alec Bladwin and Ray Winstone.
I watched a downed copy, but I can definately see myself $plasing out for this come DVD release time.

I watched that really late few years back,it`s pretty rusty in my mind but I remember it being good, but not anything special.

I think Jack Black`s one of the King of scene stealers around at the mo,but I still haven`t seen this one yet.
I`ll be surprised if it gets as low as a 2 off me but you never know, nice to get an opinion on it anyway.

Premise: In turn-of-the-century London, two magicians, The Professor (Christian Bale) and the Great Danton (Hugh Jackman) conduct a vicious professional and personal rivalry that results in one of them dead and one in prison for his murder. And then things really get interesting . . .

I just went to see this today, in part to keep my mind off the horrible tension around the Ohio St.-Michigan game, and it was a great choice to do that. It's a really compelling and suspensful thriller with Christopher Nolan's typically twisty directing (tons of flashbacks and flashforwards), great performances by both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, plus excellent supporting work by the always tremendous Michael Caine, the always tremendous to look at Scarlett Johansson, and very nice understated work by none other than David Bowie as the inventor Nikola Tesla. Caine's character explains that all magic tricks are broken into three parts, The Pledge, the Turn, and the Prestige, and Nolan set the movie up to mimic those three parts--pulling you in, tricking you to make you think you see something you really don't, and then revealing the twist. There's several big twists in it, and while I figured a few of them out, I didn't see the last one coming at all. It's very dark, moody stuff, right along the lines of Nolan's other great movies like Memento and Batman Begins, and is well worth watching, provided you're going to give it your complete attention. It ranks alongside The Proposition and Thank You For Smoking as one of the best I've seen this year.

Let`s get this outta the way...Jessica Alba...
http://img1.imagetitan.com/img1/1/31/drooling5iu936.gif
Consider this is a modern day doolallying of 1977`s "The Deep",a film I`ve always liked.
This script however is even more straight outta an episode of Scooby Doo than that and has more Plot holes than a slice of Leerdammer cheese.
There`s hardly any action, lil shark attack there, bad guy business here, cheap looking car chase over there
and co-stars one of the most annyoing pointless little dwarfs ever in Scott "Get the Fuck off my screen you Bastard!" Caan.

Despite the plentiful negatives,I did still enjoy it though and that is mainly (probably all) down to the gorgeous visuals of the Caribbean underwater setting and the aforementioned Jess in her numerous tight fitting bikinis...this movie is perfect for HD DVD demoing and I may pick it up soley for that.

Finally got to see Casino Royale last night, and it might be the best Bond movie since the first three Connery ones. I loved that they did away with all the cartoonish action and plots from the Moore, Dalton, & Brosnan movies and returned to the tough spy-movie roots of the franchise. I might be in the minority, but I was thrilled to see no Q or gadgets, just a gun and a lot of bad-ass fighting. Daniel Craig was even better than I expected as Bond, and Eva Green was a verrrry memorable Bond girl. I really dug the villain, too, and the torture sequence, which is right out of the Ian Flemming book, was suitably brutal. I was surprised by how little action there was in the middle of the movie, which is mostly just a card game, but it was really well done and suspenseful, and the big action sequences from early in the movie and at the end made up for it. The free-running chase between Bond and the bomb-maker was freaking awesome, one of the best Bond action scenes ever--right up there with the ski chase through the Olympic Village in For Your Eyes Only. I do have to say its a surprisingly violent and brutal movie, and I think the only ways it didn't get an R is because its a) a Bond movie and b) the roughest violence is not shown on screen. I think the movie went a touch too long--it kept going for about 20 or 25 minutes after I expected it to end, but all in all, it was a heck of a good movie and well worth the time.

I finally got round to watching this too and re-iterating what most peeps seem to agree,Daniel Craig is a revelation as Bond...all those cry baby Internet Brosnan fanboy`s can put their dummy`s back in cos the franchise is more than safe with this dude front and centre.

A classy grainy Black `n White opening scene leads into a surprisingly lame Flash type opening sequence which consequently leads into the best Foot chase scene since "Point Break",perhaps the best ever....it`s all done in Parkour Free Running stylee and features one of the original founders of that art.

Gripes?
Unlike #2^^^,I found Eva Green to be one of the least memorable Bond Girls ever,
and for me it`s a shame that the far more appealing Caterina Murino wasn`t the main lady in the film.
Bad Guy Le Chiffre is a memorable addition to the cast however and features in a balls to the wall Torture scene,
which could and should have gone on longer and cut into the overlyongggggggggggggg Poker section of the film.
:028:
The Theme song is also pure crap.

But summing up the main event,Craig`s Bond is a brutal, unsentimental kick ass killing machine
and genuinely looks like the first Bond ever who could kill a man with his bare hands.
The Dude fits the bill and then some.

I've gotta agree with you about the song, Welsh. I'm a big fan or Chris Cornell, and if I just heard it on the radio, I'd probably dig it, but as a Bond song, it was about as unmemorable as they come.

And yeah, Catalina Murino is pretty outrageously hot. I still was wowed by Eva, though. :D

Last few movies i saw since i found this thread.... I watch LOTS OF MOVIES. Saw all these this week....

Unaccompanied Minors (2006) - Washed out movie definitely. Another get it out by christmas sorta movie where they wanted to hopefully get something out of nuttin. The movie lacked a lot in plot with many different actors holding some type of subplot lacking commitment. Then you have the overall christmas theme that really came together choppy at the end. Whoever thought of christmas in a airport must of thinking a wannabe victor polanski. Definitely a download and watch and not pay for. I would give it a D.

The Holiday (2006) - Id say this movie is a chick flick but like a sophisticated haha im better than u sorta movie. The movies plot was definitely another prodigy from the laundry ringer. After 15 minutes i thought i was watching "Trust the Man" cuz the theme and characters seemed to be similar. Also one scene where there in a restaurant was like almost alike. As for the movie itself, the plot was different, again, who swaps there house with a stranger they dont know? Really? A little far fetched but they tried to plot it together and make something of nothing. The love story they were trying to make to make it a romance was not very deep or complex. Just another hi, i like u, lets fuck, oh im leaving, should i stay or should i go? Wow, like its not been done 50 gazillion times. Definitely, download and watch. Save the money and movie date for a better movie. But then again, most guys whos going to this aren't paying attention to the movie anyways. Movie gets a C.

Van Wilder 2: Rise of Taj (2006) - Alright a sequel to a movie without a van wilder. Taj Alabandana?? blah blah trys to fill his shoes. The movie was somewhat entertaining. Again its one of those college flicks that hopes to use the name to get people in the seats. The plot was trying to make something of a romance but really was just a macho one up on one another. Id say the movie was half entertaining. There wasn't many laughs, dry sarcasm. Only good part was the hot chick who would flash once and a while and you'd hope she'd do more than just talk about kinky shit but doesnlt. Another download and watch. Save the money. Probably let the sequels die with this one. Movie gets a C+.

American Pie 5: The Naked Mile (2006) - Movie was like a van wilder 2 but with lots more nudity. Im sure many people when you watch this, will probably wanna have the pause button near by so u can stop and examine the scenes so you can see all the tits, haha, j/k. But there are far and many inbetween. The one innocent chick he's trying to bang you do not get to see, but the college chick is not half bad. Definitely a guys night movie. Tits are not lacking. Id say the plot was another teen movie. Should he take the free weekend pass and fuck the girls or not? A lame plot obviously, but the movie wasn't about the plot, it was about the "naked" mile. Get a dvd copy and enjoy. Movie gets a C.

National Lampoons: Pledge This (2006) - Movie was like a waste of time. Literally this is one of those like OMG, you know OMG movies. It definitely was stupid and it had, you kno who... Paris Hilton as the main character. If she actually was naked itd be worth it, but she was not, so oh well. Id say that the plot was real dumb, some hot chick but like one small nudity scene, definitely lacking. Definitely take a pass and save your time on this one. This is like watching Paris Hilton trying to make a movie about sororities and about herself and how shes wonderful. Movie gets a D-.

BTW the last movie i really liked which was a week or two ago was Deja Vu. Definitely a great action movie. Plot was not lacking. Definitely a great Denzel Washington movie which was wat i expected. Not a plot that was so obvious you didn't even think. This had you thinking and on the edge of your seat to the end. It was almost a semi "24" made into a movie. It was great, and definitely worthy of watching on the big screen or a nice copy of it. Id give the movie a A-.

i enjoy both Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland, so i thought this was going to be really good. it was only ok because it seemed rushed to me. with all the 24 hype at the time of this release, i feel they should've developed Sutherland's character a lot more. Eva Longoria is about as entertaining to watch as a box of rocks, so she didn't help for shit. i can see why this didn't do all that well at the box-office. 5/10 stars.

Just finished watching two movies, one new release, and one older one.
Both starring my fav actor Jason Statham....
The first was Crank, tought it was pretty good, liked the action, and a little comedy thrown in too.
The other was "revolver" its a bit older, its a Guy Ritchie movie so it has the typical Ritchie look. Really enjoyed it too, although it can be a little confusing at times.
Both are worth a look, especially if you like Statham.

Just saw Matt Damon in that new DeNiro picture, The Good Shepherd. I'd give it 7/10. Very ambitious, with some decent plot twists. Though Damon's acting was absolutely wooden...and I know to some extent that's the point, but it was hard for me to *care* much about his character, which I think could've pushed the film over into more than adequacy. I think DeNiro was trying to make "The Godfather" here (the movie's at least half-an-hour too long), and he does a good job getting into what a life of secrecy does to a man, and a nation. Mixed, but worth seeing.

The Messengers- A great attempt at an American Horror film by the creators of of "Eye", "Eye II" and "Eye 10". There is a good mixture of Asian horror within this clearly American setting. No spoiler, but I was quite disappointed with the ending. The U.S. remake of "The Eye" will be in production this year with Jessica Alba. Hope they do the Pang Brothers right. 7.5/10

I just went to see 300 today, and it was phenomenal. Probably better than any movie I saw last year, and the best I've seen since Sin City. Speaking of which, 300 isn't quite up to Sin City's standards, and doesn't show you the stuff you've never seen before the way Sin City did, but it's still fantastic. Sure it's totally historically inaccurate--the Spartans sure as hell weren't fighting for "freedom" considering they had huge numbers of slaves, and I doubt the Spartans fought in nothing but padded jockstraps, but who gives a fuck? It's an adaptation of Frank Miller's comic, anyway, not a recreation of history, and it's totally badass. The story and acting are solid, the all-green screen effects look very cool (if not as stylized and comic bookish as Sin City's), and the creatures are suitably nasty. The battle scenes, which is what really matters with a movie like this, are tremendous, really brutal, really bloody--although it's obvious the splatters are CGI and there's not really anything a squeamish person can't take--and they're really well choreographed, too, so they look like a live action comic. Actually, none of the gore is as bad as in Zack Syder's first movie, the remake of Dawn of the Dead (especially that hot blonde getting hacked in half by a chainsaw) and I thought some of the creatures and a visit to the Persian king's freakshow of a harem were more disturbing than any of the bloodshed. Gerard Butler and David Wenham (Faramir from the Lord of the Rings) are very cool as the main Spartans, and Lena Heady (in the 2nd poster above) is absolutely stunning as Butler's wife. If possible, she actually looks hotter wearing some of her skimpy togas than she does when she's naked. Be warned that there's a lot of incredibly buffed out half-naked dudes that you really don't want to compare yourself to, so if you go with a girl, she'll probably be licking the screen and not paying you any attention. The one thing I didn't like it Xerxes, the Persian king, who's about 10 feet tall and had an obviously dubbed voice that sounded like Barry White run though a subwoofer, but otherwise, it pretty much lived up to my incredibly high expectations.

9.5/10

p.s. I just read that, due to 300 making $70 million it's opening weekend (the highest grossing opening ever in March and 3rd highest ever for an R rated movie after the Matrix Reloaded and the Passion of the Christ) Zack Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's classic Watchmen graphic novel is getting fast-tracked into production. I wasn't a big fan of turning Watchmen into a movie, since I doubt it can really be done well, but after seeing 300, I'm willing to give Zack a shot.

Gerard Butler - Leonidas
Date of Birth
13 November 1969, Glasgow, Scotland, UK

Who better to play a Bronze Age Greek warrior king, than a mad Scotsman?

Rodrigo Santoro - Xerxes
22 August 1975, Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro

Xerxes would have been a short, bearded, hairy dude who wouldn't have frightened a girl scout. Not a nipple-pierced gender-bending freak like he is in this film.:013:

Like #2 said, the Spartans were not 'freedom fighters' in the traditional sense. They enslaved an entire population of people, the Helots, whom they conquered. They didn't even like the other Greeks.

And speaking of sweaty, scantily-clad men....the Spartans not only practiced man-love, but they ENCOURAGED it! They figured that soldiers would fight better if they had to defend their lovers. So Spartan men lived among their fellow warriors, visited their wives only occasionally, and regularly engaged in butt-bumping with their buddies.

And they would have worn armor nearly always. Their weapons and armor were the best in the ancient world.

I can't WAIT to see this film. Maybe this weekend....:D

Synopsis: The Emperor of China has passed a decree outlawing all martial arts, and the punishment for disobeying it is decapitation. A mercenary army of psychopaths armed with all sorts of funky weapons (razor-bladed flying shields, an umbrella that chops heads off, etc) and led by the nefarious general Fire Wind, is rampaging around the countryside, killing everybody in sight, and seven warriors wielding magic swords come to the defense of a village in order to put an end of Fire Wind's reign of terror.

Apparently, this movie is based on a famous Chinese novel rather than Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, which it really resembles, for the first hour at least. It was made by legendary Hong Kong director Tsui Hark, and while it isn't quite to the artistic level of recent Chinese sword films like Hero or Crouching Tiger, it's got a ton of outstanding action, and the final battle between the evil general and the incomparable Donnie Yen is possibly the best swordfight I've ever seen in a movie. I'm a huge fan of Donnie (and he's a total freaking badass in this movie), and Fire Wind, the villain is outstanding--he's really mellow and laidback but totally unhinged and bat-shit crazy, too. On the other hand, I had a hard time keeping the other heroes straight, and they could have done a better job establishing what each sword does--they all have special powers but I'll be damned if I could figure out what they are. It's also a long movie--2 1/2 hours--and gets a bit slow in the middle, with some high drama and romance. The whole thing is quite a bit more serious and heavy than most martial arts movies. That having been said, I still really recommend this to any fans of Chinese sword action. There are some people on the net that claim it has all kinds of spiritual meanings in it, but if that's the case, I must admit I missed all of that--I saw it for the mayhem. :D

Also be prepared, it's obviously set up for a sequel, it's not a cliff hanger or anything, but it's also not all tied up in a little bow. It got nominated for a whole shitload of Chinese oscars or awards or something, so I'd expect another one somewhere down the line. Especially since one of the alternate English titles of this movie listed on IMDB is "Seven Swords Part 1"

Just saw Hot Fuzz. It was pretty damn funny. The last 20 minute were Hysterical. It takes alot to get me to laugh out loud, because after seeing so many movies you kind of expect where and when the punch line or payoff is coming. If you liked Shawn of the Dead, you'll love this Action/Comedy movie. I'd say 8/10.

My buddy and I were planning to go see Hot Fuzz last night, but it's not out at any of the theaters in our area. Apparently, there's a shortage of prints, or something, so I'm hoping we get it in the next few weeks, because it looks awesome.

Instead of that, we went to see Blades of Glory, and that was a good substitute. I'm a big fan of Will Ferrell's (not so much of Jon Heder) and I think this one's better than Talladega Nights and Anchorman, both of which I thought were decent but not great. They do a really great job of spoofing all the homoeroticism & artsy-fartsyness of figure skating. Ferrell's hysterical as always, the skating routines are great, and who knew Jenna Fisher from the Office would look so good in lingerie? (see below) A very solid (if generally stupid) comedy that was only made slightly less fun by the bimbo sitting behind us kicking our seats all night.

I made to to Hot Fuzz last week, and it was hysterical. My friend and I agree it's a cult hit in the making. It's a really effective spoof of 80s buddy-cop action movies, but it also is a great spoof of those quirky small-town comedies the English make so well, like Waking Ned Devine, with their bizarre cast of village citizens. I think it'll actually be a hell of a lot funnier the second time around. A lot of the jokes are in the background, or are stuff you might not catch on the first viewing. I went to it with my buddy, and when we were driving home, we kept pointing out gags that the other missed. It's not wall-to-wall jokes with no real plot, like the Naked Gun movies, but instead the plot really matters and a lot of the jokes are a little more subtle, or don't pay off until an hour later in the movie. Great stuff, and I really hope Simon Pegg & his pals keep making these kind of movies, because they're really good at it. And speaking of Simon Pegg, I was really impressed with him in it, because the badass cop he plays is light-years away from the slacker in Shaun of the Dead.

8/10

I also just saw Spider-Man 3 today. I didn't think it was horrible, but it was kind of disappointing and I'd rate it as the easily the weakest of the three Spider-man movies. My fear going into it was that three bad guys--Venom, Green Goblin & Sandman--was too many, and that's one of the big problems with it. The whole plot is unfocused--it starts w/ one villain, jumps to another, and then to the third, and then back to the first again. Venom really doesn't show up until about halfway through, and they kind of wasted Sandman, who I've always liked as a sympathetic bad guy. He's not really pivitol to the plot, and I was thinking they could have built a whole movie around him, rather than having him clutter up a movie about Venom. I really liked Thomas Haden Church as him, too, which makes it even worse that Sandman wasn't that important. They also didn't handle Peter Parker's descent into darkness because of Venom well at all. Basically, they just mess up his hair and have him act like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, discoing down the street and making eyes at every girl he sees. It's all pretty dopey & if they were going to make a dark movie, they should have brought Venom in early on and spent a lot of time with Peter struggling with his dark side before overcoming it. The whole revenge/forgiveness thing was probably a bit too heavy & deep for a Spider-man movie, too, but I've noticed most superhero movies are making the mistake of being too serious--Superman & the Hulk made the same mistake. They all just need to step away from the seriousness and leave the darkness to Batman. I've always liked the cast for the Spider-man movies, and this one's solid as usual--Topher Grace is suitably sleazy as Eddie Brock &, surprisingly, Bryce Dallas Howard was smoking as Gwen Stacy. I've never really considered her that hot before, but she looked great in that blonde hair. I also always love the Jonah Jameson stuff, and would have loved more of it in this movie--J.K. Simmons is soooo freaking perfect as Jameson.

I loved this one, which I thought was one of the best Bond movies ever, but I just read that one of the producers of the next Bond flick is really keen on casting (get ready to puke/scream/shoot yourself) Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen as the next Bond girls. No, this isn't April Fool's Day and no, I'm not making this up. There are claims that this producer has apparently made a serious offer to them, has guaranteed they'd be good guys and wouldn't have to do nudity, and they're seriously considering it. I've done a little bit of digging & most Bond fans seem to think this is just one of the goofy rumors that always comes with Bond movies, like Bill Clinton doing a cameo in Casino Royale or Orland Bloom playing a young Bond (I guess that would be for the fans who think Bond should be a sexually ambiguous pussy who couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag). I really hope that's true because the Bond series just got a fantastic jump start with CR & I'd probably vow to never watch a Bond movie again if they went ahead with casting those ugly, anorexic, insanely untalented, giant-alien-head/tiny-alien bodied freaks.

On a slightly better bit of casting note, Goran Visnjic from ER is supposed to be the new villain. He's a good actor (check him out in a creepy little thriller called the Deep End), but he reminds me a bit too much of Le Chifre from CR & I'd rather then go in another direction.

28 Weeks Later

Synopsis: 6 months after the rage virus destroyed Britain, NATO, led the U.S. Army, is back to begin the reconstruction of London. 15,000 civilians have returned, including teenage Tammy and 12 year-old Andy, the children of a maintenance worker (Robert Carlyle) who ran off when his wife was grabbed by the zombies during the epidemic and now works in London's Green Zone. When another outbreak of the virus occurs, Tammy and Andy, along with an army doctor and a sniper, race for safety, in danger both from the infected and the soldiers who are ordered to kill everything that moves.

This wasn't quite up to the standards of 28 Days Later, which I think is one of the best horror movies of the last 10 or 15 years, but it's a worthy sequel to the original and a very solid action/horror film. There's an entirely new creative team in charge--new director & screen writers--but they do a really good job building on the realism, dread, and grimness of the original and injecting a whole lot more action and gore. There's an effective slow build for the first half-hour or 45 minutes, and then it takes off into pretty much non-stop action for the rest of the movie (which is a very compact 99 minutes). I'm normally not a fan of movies that are built around kids, primarily because child actors tend to be really annoying--but the kid playing Andy is very understated and quite good, as is the girl playing his sister. Robert Carlyle is excellent as always, and Jeremy Renner as the sniper and Harold Perrienaux from Lost as one of his buddies are very good, too. The only performance that totally rang false was Rose Byrne as the doctor--she's stiff as a board, shows virtually no emotion through the whole movie, and delivers all of her lines in an utterly flat monotone, and besides, she's much too young to be a major in the army and the head medical authority in as massive a project as the reconstruction of London. I also had a big problem with the army's free-fire orders. Now I get that this is supposed to be a critique of American involvement in Iraq--the U.S. Army goes in with great intentions but ends up fucking everything up and making it all much worse--but the order to shoot anything that moves is just stupid. At one point, they're driving in a car and getting shot at by a helicopter, but since the infected are utterly mindless, it would be totally obvious to the pilot that the people driving the car weren't infected and didn't need to be shot. Afterall, since the virus has a six-second incubation period, so it's not like they could be infected and not know it. There are a few other stupid points that really bothered me, but it's still a very effective movie. There's a lot of the jerky camera work that tends to make some folks sick, but it really adds to the chaos and unsettling nature of the movie. There's also a clear and pretty cool hint at a 3rd sequel (would that be "28 Months Later"?) After the slow opening, there's plenty of action, plenty of gore, and plenty of scares, and I was much more satisfied giving this movie my money than I was giving it to Spider-man 3.

Recently saw a Norwegin movie called Lange flate ballær (basicly means Shoot the ball long and low, I guess).

Anyway, it's about 5 Norwegian men who works in an auto shop, but after not doing so good is about to get bought up by a competing company. All of them is very interested in football (soccer to you) and the world cup is just on the way so the owner of the shop invites the other guys to tag along to a road trip to Germany to see Norway play. On the way all kind of crazy shit happens and it's all around a really funny movie, one of the funniest I've seen this year. Might not be for everyone, but if you have any interest (and know norwegian) than check it out.

http://img131.imagevenue.com/loc420/th_18026_cocaine_cowboys_122_420lo.jpg (http://img131.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=18026_cocaine_cowboys_122_420lo.jpg)

Essentially the real-life version of Miami Vice & Scarface, this is really interesting (and fairly disturbing) documentary about the Miami cocaine trade in the 70s & 80s. The first half follows two Americans who provided transportation for the Medellin Cartel, flying cocaine into Florida, and the second half is about the bloodbath that hit Miami in the early 80s because of drug wars, concentrating on a Columbian-American hitman who killed upwards of 30 people (he's in prison for life and has some kind of plea-bargain so he can talk about most of the murders he carried out). The money these guys were making is absolutely eye-popping--one of the transportation guys estimated that he made at least $100 million personally while the hitman, when he was just distributing drugs & acting as muscle before he ever even killed anybody, was getting paid $1000 a day. According to the movie, the drug trade basically built Miami into the city it is today, since all the dealers had so much money the only thing they could do with it was buy tons of expensive shit or invest it in real estate, and they ended up building many of Miami's famous sky scrapers and condos. It also shows how the police were totally unprepared for the explosion of murders and how the Columbians would kill a bunch of people, including innocent bystanders, just to get one or two targets. Most of the murders were ordered by a woman named Griselda Blanco, who was a complete psychopath. She basically killed anybody who owed her money or who she owed money to, and actually liked being at war with other drug dealers. The hitman was her #1 guy and it's pretty chilling to hear him talk about murdering people without any sense of remorse at all. The only thing he seems to feel bad about is accidentally killing the 2 year-old son of one of his targets (be prepared for some grisly crime-scene photos, including the corpse of a guy Griselda had killed, chopped up, put in a cardboard box and dumped by the side of the road). The whole movie is pretty fast-paced and probably emphasizes glitz and style over substance, but if you're at all interested in this kind of thing, or if you're a fan of Scarface and want to see what really happened, I'd say check it out.

I give it a 2/10 just because I laughed at how utterly stupid all the characters were and cuz Jordana Brewster is hot. One of the most cliched movies I've ever seen honestly.

8/10
One of the best movies I've seen for awhile. Interesting plot line a few twists here and there and enough violence to keep those who can't pay attention without some bloodshed. To completely understand it all you'll probably need to watch "Oldboy" and "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance"

On Saturday - Fantastic 4: Rise of the silver surfer
3/10 kinda boring plot but any movie with Jessica Alba is okay, she looked hot as usual but more tanned, didn't want to watch this film would've preferred to watch Ocean's Thirteen but movies times were convenient

On Sunday - Transformers
Can't believe us here downunder get the movie before all the yanks!
8/10 enjoyed it a lot, Megan Fox is smoking hot, great action throughout, movie looked great on a VMax screen but you'd expect that from M.Bay. However with all M.Bay films some minor complaints but i'll waiting till the rest get to watch the film before I get to those.

The Surfer dude was superb and stole every scene he was in and should definately get his own spin off flick on the strength of his character here.
Film itself could have done with a more walk, less talk, which was surprising considering it was a mere 90 minutes.
The London scene was a letdown as was the Torch v Surfer chase sequence...was expecting more but it was exactly as shown in the preview trailer months back.
It was also the least I`ve ever fancied Jessica Alba on screen.

For the Surfer...

It was ok , the fight scenes and special effects were excellent , the actors playing soldiers were credible , as were the Section 07 actors , the 'teens' sucked , not funny , cmon' , they were old enough to be in their 30s , teens my ass . The Ebay/net tie-ins were dated and tarded , who the hell hide's porn mags when they got a PC ?

The parents of the 'teen' entertained , overall 7/10 ( 9/10 if they had actual teens who were compelling playing the roles ) , I enjoyed .......

Synopsis: When a cyber-terrorist and his army of mercenaries cause all computer, transportation, and financial systems in the U.S. to crash, it's up to John McClane and a nerdy hacker (geek-du-jour Brandon "I'm a Mac" Long) to save the day.

Not quite up to the lofty standards set by the first two Die Hard movies, both of which are classics, but it was great to see an old-school 80s & 90s style shoot-em-up action movie again. I love super heroes as much as the next guy, but they've taken over the big budget action genre to such an extent that I've gotten completely bored with almost all of them (Batman excluded) and long for the days of Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson blowing away some bad guys with a smirk and a hail of bullets. Thankfully, Willis is in top form doing exactly that in Live Free of Die Hard. Unfortunately, the movie's PG-13, so some of the profanity is toned down a bit--there's no "yippee-ki-yay motherfucker"--but, keeping with this country's acceptance of mass murder, as long as nobody shows their tits or says "fuck", there's plenty of violence. Justin Long is good as a sidekick--I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually prefer him over Samuel L. Jackson in Die Hard 3--and as always, he somehow manages to be geeky and pussyish without being annoying. There's also a great turn by the phenomenal Maggie Q as the villain's squeeze & main ass-kicker, and I really hope her Hollywood career takes off because she's amazing. The only major complaints I have are that the villain, played by Timothy Oliphant, is pretty weak--he actually was scarier as a smalltime drug dealer in Go than he is here as a super-terrorist--and that some of the stunts are so outlandish as to be completely unbelievable. That having been said, the plot is solid, if somewhat murky, the action's pretty much non-stop, Willis & Long make a good mismatched comedy team, and, befitting his status as the punching bag of action heroes, McClane takes brutal beating after brutal beating and keeps coming back for more. It might be more on the level of Broken Arrow or Under Siege than the first two Die Hards, but it's still entertaining and is worth seeing beyond its nostalgia factor. In general, I'm not a big fan of today's sequel-driven summers, but I'm up for Die Hard 5 after seeing this one.

Shooter--I was on an action kick yesterday after seeing Live Free or Die Hard, and luckily, this had arrived in the mail from Netflix on Monday. It's more of a thriller than an action movie--there's only a couple big-time action sequences, but it's a fairly entertaining flick. It seems like Mark Wahlberg's attempt at creating an action franchise like Matt Damon's got with the Bourne movies, and if fact he comes off as a cut-rate version of Jason Bourne in it. On the other hand, though, he's totally believable as a special forces killing machine. The whole plot is really outlandish and there's a bunch of ridiculous stuff in it, but most of what happens is fairly logical, if unbelievable, so I didn't roll my eyes too much at it. The most interesting thing about it is that it concerns soldiers whose patriotism is exploited politicians and greedy businessmen, and that makes it very timely given our current political climate. There's also Kate Mara and Rhona Mitra providing great eye candy, although neither gets to do too much (and neither gets naked :dammit:). The biggest problem I had with the movie was that, with Wahlberg mumbling all of his lines, Danny Glover lisping (he must've had a stroke or had some teeth knocked out or something), and Kate Mara doing a Kentucky accent, I had a hell of a time understanding what people were saying and had to turn on the subtitles on my DVD several times to figure it out. Anyway, solid action, nothing all that special but worth a look.

Ingmar Bergman

8.2/10

This is a film about the child/parent relationship and the effects of the parents inability to be a parent on a child who has become an adult. The movie is quite depressing throughout, this is not a bad thing unlike how most view movies. Bergman is able to direct with his uncanny ability to have underlying themes that can only be truly interpreted and understood by the viewer who might have had the same experience. I watched it with the commentary by a renowned Bergman film scholar and found that helpful in the understanding of what Bergman was trying to say in this film.

It is not as good as most Bergman films in my pov, but it clearly shows how magnificent Bergman is at directing women.

I just watched this myself (thanks to Rocky & UD uploading it) and all I've got to say is I'm glad I didn't pay a dime for it. Even though it's less than an hour and a half long, I was bored silly (it's not a good sign when you keep looking at the time to see when an 85-minute action movie's going to end). Nothing really happens for the first half-hour, and then, when the Surfer shows up, the movie gets even slower than it was when nothing was happening. The only action sequences that were particularly exciting were the Torch vs. Surfer chase--which, as Welsh pointed out, was contained almost in its entirety in the preview--and the battle against the mega-powered Doom, but everything else was limp. The Human Torch was fairly funny, but they didn't expand on the plot thread of him being a screw up nearly enough, and the rest of the team, like the movie, was just boring. Jessica Alba's smoking hot but she's way too over-emotive, always looking at the Surfer with her big, puppy-dog blue-contact lenses, and those hand gestures she does when using her powers are way too goofy for words. Plus, there wasn't nearly enough bickering between the Fantastic Four. Since when do Mr. Fantastic, the Torch, & the Thing all like each other? The great thing about them in the comics is that they're a team but they don't particularly get along. And whoever cast Julian McMahon as Dr. Doom should be shot. He's not remotely intimidating, particularly with that high voice of his, and doesn't come off anywhere near as arrogant and smart as Dr. Doom is supposed to be. I thought the Surfer was okay, but I've seen better all-CGI characters in other movies, and Galactus was a let down, too.

A Man Apart (2003)

Cast:

Vin Diesel as Sean Vetter
Larenz Tate as Demetrius Hicks

Sean Vetter and Demetrius Hicks are members of the DEA who are fighting an ongoing drug war on the California/Mexico border, they are most successful at it because of their edge of growing up on the street and being thugs converted to cops. The DEA busts one of the major players by the name of "Memo" Lucero and imprison him in the United States but then a major player named Diablo then takes over the business and now he is now the major player targeted by Vetter and his team. But when Vetter's wife is killed in a botched hit organized by Diablo, he seeks revenge against those responsible and in the process has to seek help from the imprisoned Lucero in order to catch Diablo. But in the process, Vetter and Hicks have to fight their way up the chain to get to Diablo but it's easier said than done when all Vetter can focus on is revenge...

Maybe 4/10.

Good Acton, but the plot was illogical, IMHO. Couldn't fathom why the hero (Diesel/Vetter) would do some of the things he did, especially in the ending.:013:

I went to see the Simpsons movie last week. It was pretty good, definitely better than the show has been the last several years, but not nearly on the level of the Simpsons' "golden years" of seasons 3 -7. There were some very funny bits, and on the whole, even when I wasn't laughing out loud, it kept me amused. I was also glad that they didn't cram too many celebrity cameos--other than a little cameo by Green Day, the only celeb voices are from Simpsons regulars Albert Brooks & Joe Mantegna. That was a relief, given the way the Simpsons tends to have a celebrity voice on almost every episode, most whom just play themselves or bring nothing to the part they're playing (Helen Hunt, Drew Barrymore, Venus and Serena Williams, etc.) I was a little disappointed that they didn't try to go above and beyond the show, though. Unlike the South Park Movie (which is much better and funnier than this one), this is basically just a really long episode of the Simpsons.

In these interlocking tales of high stakes and low lifes, Mob boss Primo Sparazza has taken out a hefty contract on Buddy "Aces" Israel --a sleazy magician who has agreed to turn state's evidence against the Vegas mob. The FBI, sensing a chance to use this small-time con to bring down big-target Sparazza, places Aces into protective custody-under the supervision of two agents dispatched to Aces' Lake Tahoe hideout. When word of the price on Aces' head spreads into the community of ex-cons and cons-to-be, it entices bounty hunters, thugs-for-hire, smokin' hot vixens and double-crossing mobsters to join in the hunt. Saw Fracture today. Such a gripping but predictable movie. Anthony Hopkins finds out his wife is sleeping with a police detective and he murders her in their home. The story takes off from there as Ryan Gosling is the prosecutor brought in to put away Hopkins.

Like I said, I personally found it to be rather predictable but it's more of a "guess how he did it" movie than anything. Well casted with Gosling and the gorgeous Rosamund Pike. It'll keep you interested till the end.

Blood Diamond....6.5/10.

Good story that shows the darker, decadent side to the diamond trade. It takes you into the world of mercenaries, smugglers, and where murderous rebels use slaves to dig diamonds, and use child soldiiers to fight their wars.

I didn't buy Leonardo DiCaprio as the merc-turned-smuggler. His acting is lame, and his inability to hold the Afrkaner accent just kept pounding nails into his performance.

I liked the story. There is some good action, and gives you a good, haunting vision of the hell that is Central Africa. But DiCaprio was the weak link. The rest of the cast was quite good.

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer....

Very disappointed in this film. Though the Surfer was supposed to be the main focus, the plot veered wildly off course as the Four sorted out personal issues. And why in hell would they dilute the story further by resurrecting Dr. Doom? Wasn't the planet-gobbling Galactus sufficiently threatening? :013:

In the film, they didn't even tell you what Galactus was. In the comics, he was an alien giant. But in this outing, Galactus was sort of a sentient space-faring planet-eating ameoba that looked like a rolling storm front.

And why did they cut it to 91 minutes? I diealed it up on PPV, and was aghast when it suddenly wrapped up shortly after the hour mark.
