i dont know about that. hockeys ratings suck big time here in america. last i heard when i watching a morning sports show they were saying rating for sports, and hockey had a .9 rating. while nba had like the top 6-7 spots for cable ratings last week.

Another reason that it's like that there is that they chose OLN out of all networks to broadcast their games...why not put it on Fox news and see how many people watch it there...

Goo OILERS GO! :)

I think that they will go back to a major cable network soon. ESPN will pick it up eventually.

I live in N.C. and it doesn't do a whole lot in Charlotte. Some buddies of mine are talking about it, however, they would rather talk Panthers or college basketball.

HA! the Canes came back and won game 1 5-4. Nice comeback by the Canes and nice going Oilers. Should of won this one game by being up 3-0 late in the 2nd period. Being up 3-0 this late in a hockey game and losing thats not good. I expected them to maybe score two more goals and maybe allow 2 and this game would be 5-2. Guess i was wrong. GO CANES!

I didn't see the whole game but I did see the highlight of that game winning goal. How could the Oiler's f&^% up like that? I don't know if they can recover from it.

I remember during one of the many Blues playoff failures, we had a guy (Scott Pellerin, I think), throw the puck into our own net. From there, the series was over and the Blues just wasted away.

Now I'm not saying the Oilers are the Blues since the Oilers have actually won Stanley Cups, but a major screw up like that is pretty demoralizing.

Really, I don't care who wins. I pretty much stopped watching hockey back in October when the Blues were eliminated from the playoff race.

Bench Bergeron and make sure that Conklin never see's another second of icetime in an Oilers jersey.
There's a conspiracy theory goin on that Rolison will be back for game 3 Here (http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/darren_dreger/2006/06/06/cup_cloak_dagger/)

It did look a little suspicious to me, that MacTavish knew *instantly* after the game was over that "the goalie won't be back."

This series is no where close to being over. Whoever thinks that obviously doesnt pay attention or knows shit about sports. Its only the first game. Even if they go up 2-0 its not over. If they go up 3-0 then i'd be thinking that.

Canes goalie made incredible stops in game 1!! Tough break for the Oilers goalie, now the pressure is even more on them.

June 7th, 2006, 12:16 AM
Well...the only reason to think it's "over" is that the biggest reason Edmonton reach the finals (goaltending) just took a major hit. And having watched Ty Conklin choke away big games at UNH, I'd say the Oilers had better be thinking of using the other guy. But if Rolosson can get hot, so can someone else. Let's go Oilers.

poor hockey. the finals are getting worse ratings than women's softball. i really think its time they shook up the league & made some major changes to get people interested again. they need to move those teams that play in tropical weather back to canada and change the two conferences to one for the canadian teams and one for the us teams. that way its a us-canada matchup every year in the finals.

fartman23
June 12th, 2006, 02:18 PM
The Saturday night tilt in Edmonton was *such* a great game...but you're right...it's a shame no one (in the US) was watching. I believe NBC expected the event to set the record for the lowest-rated finals game in any major-sport history (topping a Stanley Cup game from a few years ago). It really is a shame, because the NHL was *way* more entertaining this year than in probably the ten seasons previous. The only hope is that word-of-mouth spreads that it isn't all clutch-and-grab anymore, the refs will call penalties in the playoffs, etc., and maybe over the next few seasons the league can restore some luster. But it simply may be too late...that's what happens when your product sucks for ten seasons, and then you cancel an entire year.... All that said, I'm watching....

I hear you...they don't look as quick as they did throughout the rest of the playoffs, and obviously, not having Rollie is killing them. Samsonov's goal Monday night was a thing of beauty, as he set up a linemate with a whirling dervish of a goal, and then popped in the rebound, but we Bruins fans know how frustrating the Magical Muscovite can be...that was just about the *only* time in four games he's gone to the net. You just want to shake him and say: "Sergei! Skate *that* way!" I'm holding out little hope for a return to the great white North in this series....

What an incredible Game 4. It's too bad hockey shut down last year and made everyone forget about them, because these have been some unreal playoffs. Short-handed overtime goal for Edmonton to send the series back to Canada....

With fans shouting "We want the Cup!" with 5 to go in the 3rd, looks like this will conclude in Raleigh Monday night.
I'm for the Oilers, but I do like hurricanes too; they're like women; when they come, they're loud and wet, and when the go, they take your house and car.

I was rooting for Edmonton, but it was easy to be happy for the 'Canes. As a Bruins fan from way back, I'm happy to see Glen Wesley get his Cup. I'm reminded of Game 1 against the Oilers back in 1990, when Wesley had an open-net shot to win in double-overtime and missed. At practice the next day, his teammates set up a big target at the top of an empty net with a sign that said, "Hit it here, Glen!" Redemption for him....

Saturday night's Game 3 equaled NBC's lowest rating ever for a prime-time program. Ottawa's 5-3 victory over Anaheim received a 1.1 national rating and a 2 share, the network said Tuesday. That matched a rerun of The West Wing on July 23, 2005, which also drew a 1.1 rating.

Saturday's rating was down 31 percent from last year's Game 3 between Edmonton and Carolina, which had a 1.6/3.

The national ratings for Monday night's Game 4 declined less sharply from last year. The Ducks' 3-2 victory received a 1.9/3, down 5 percent from the 2.0/3 for Game 4 in 2006.

The rating is the percentage watching a telecast among all homes with televisions, and the share is the percentage tuned in to a broadcast among those households with televisions on at the time. A ratings point represents 1,114,000 households.

And nobody give's a damn , well except for 2 Canadians , I heard :D :013: :D :013:

Damn, I'm actually more surprised that it tied a record-low by The West Wing. I've never watched the show, but I always heard people raving about it. I also thought the XFL garnered NBC's all-time worst ratings. Jiff is right, though. Too many ignorant Americans out there, not aware of how exciting hockey actually is.
