I continue to use RS for a couple of reasons, mainly I still have an active RS premium acct... Aside from that, I still find RS to be more reliable than many of the other hosts... I occaisonally check some files I upped to RS several months back, and find they are still active. I can't tell you how many times I click a link from another host (sometimes not even a week old!) and it is expired/deleted/no longer works...

i agree with you jiff. but you have to think that people know about other filehosts by now and they are still using rapidshare for some reason. i think the main reason is so that they can keep their premium account running for free by getting points for their uploads. as far as reliability and speed, keepmyfile is the shit, but mostly i just use sharpuploader to put them all on imagevenue.

They are getting a bit out of hand. Lengthening the wait time even after a small DL and imposing brake speeds (which is a joke) is going a bit to far. People use RS because there were no brake speeds for free users. I guess T will have to decide on this, but a lot of people buck-up and but the Premium Accounts, so I don't know.

the best way to encourage other people to use alternate hosts is for you to use other hosts so everyone gets them used to them

I disagree with banning RS. Let's face it. The majority of the people who cry about it are those who want to get uninterupted loads of free porn from loads of free links. There's nothing wrong if the filehost decides to clamp down on the freeness and offer a premium account instead. If people are too cheap to get one of those, then simply go to another filehost instead of asking for it to be banned. RS is still good to me.

RS has served me well too, it still is difficult to get the 10.000 points I need to extend my account though, since rapidshare is so popular, We shouldn't ban them simply because over half of the internet uses rapidshare, and we all got great files from that very same source. Take Care All

I agree rapidshare sucks, with all the wait time wasted, but there are ways around it. Try the rapidcheck program! I really dont like the idea of paying for free porn. Whatever happened to Peewee's filehost review? There should be some alternatives there.
SO here's the question if not rapidshare for filehosting then who?
Rapidshare with all its shortcomings has still seemed to be the reliable filehost that's probably the reason why we use it so much.

Both sides of this arguement have good points. But to those that have an account and try to keep it without paying for it by getting those 10,000 points a month: this clamp down might hurt you because the leechers that get you those points are going to get fed up with the longer wait periods and slowers speeds.

KanMan
August 12th, 2006, 05:39 AM

August 12th, 2006, 08:57 AM
Well folks,

Lets face it. If you do have a premium account with rapidshare, it does offer the best possible upload and download functionality of all the file hosts I have tried.

The only realistic alternative is keepmyfile. But I am tired of having keepmyfile waste 15 mins uploading my file and then giving an error screen. Thats never happened with rapidshare.

And if they give good service they have the right to charge - bcos they have to pay someone up the line too. I dont use rapidshare only for porn but also other uses and the yearly fees they charge to me is no inconvenience when I easily spend that much amount on a casual day out.

I definately dont think it should be banned as its the best file host out there in my opinion. And they have every right to charge when they provide excellent service to those who pay.

I know there could be a nasty war triggered by this post. But frankly tell me is there any other filehost that can measure up to RS in terms of stability and reliability?

At least rapidshare allows free downloads after a wait - there are quite a few file hosts out there which always give me the msg "All download slots allocated to your country are in use. Try again later". This never changes no matter how many times I try and what time of the day I try

On another note I guess we also should be obliged to Mr. T to help upkeep of the servers.

If all active members contribute just a doller each for the servers monthly upkeep I guess we will be able to avoid shifting hosts every few months plus set up our own version of rapidshare too.

Heck I dont know about the membership details but if I am not mistaken even half a doller from each member should be enuf.

They cant charge us a fee because of reasons best left undiscussed but whats there to have a informal obligatory collection setup.

I know that kind of amount can get a dedicated server with acres of storage and no monthly bandwidth caps.

While rapidshare does have its uses, some people like me for example, loathe to download multiple files. I for one am unable to purchase a rapidshare account due to some bizzare reason my bank account doesnt not allow for online money transfer hence it is unusable with Paypal hence i cannot pay for it.

There are some others on the otherhand who unable to use any other file sharing service for a variety of reasons and are stuck with the only choice of rapidshare.

So while many of us loathe rapidshare it is still a free service just like all the other current free file sharing services, and we should at least be thankful of that.

because there were multiple threads along the same discussion lines in regards to RS, i've merged them both. their (RS) service and reliability is stable enough, i cannot find another comparable one. because of this, i would rather not ban (censor) their links here. i would like to censor those links which expire files in a short amount of time. in addition to RS, i personally user hemenpaylas.com and filefactory.com almost exclusively. as for wetskin's suggestion... that would be a discussion for another non-public forum section. i'd also like to mention that we're with a good hosting service now. they came very highly recommended and i went through a two-week question/answer session with them prior to our move. i wanted to make sure they would be able to offer us what we need. short of some major disaster, i don't forsee us moving again anytime soon.

Remember guys there is no such thing as a free lunch. You got to give some and take some.

Examples:
Even here on SG u need to give something (quality posts) to get access 2 higher levels where u get better stuff.

Most of you do pay for your internet connections in order to access SG and similar sites and the general Internet - I bet your broadband connections dont come free.

If you guys save stuff on your hard disks (and I am sure most do) you need to spend on harddisks and the resulting computing resources.

So just get used to the idea of paying in cash or kind for every service that you avail of in this world. Either pay for instant unlimited downloads or pay in terms of time (waiting in line ) to download stuff.

I think my time is precious. So, if i invest in a rapidshare acct I can que up my downloads in a download manager overnight. Therefore I can use the time and bandwidth saved during the day working effeciently so that I can make more money (which pays for more than the worth of the rapidshare account). And I can use the rapidshare acct forother purposes too as my premium acct files dont get deleted till my acct expires or I delete them manually.

Think of my logic carefully - bet it would make sense after a while.

wettie.

I believe they're the same company as rapidshare.de advertises and promotes rs.com...it could be that rapidshare.de has reached it capacity a few times now, not allowing any more uploads. So they added rapidshare.com.

About subscriptions, I'd assume you'd use the same login for .com as .de

RapidShare.De has reached capacity - u can't upload to it anymore. I hear all download links are go0d until sometime in the new year.

If you have a RapidShare.De account you can sorta transfer it over to the .Com site.

One advise, Rapidshare has two upload sites (Rapidshare.com and Rapidshare.de), Rapidshare.de has become redundant at this moment in time due to the hardrive space being full, which means you are not able to upload any files and you are only able to download Rapidshare.de files. Since everyone has now moved over to Rapidshare.com (i.e everyone is uploading files using .com) I would advise you to obtain a premium account from Rapidshare.com.

Right now the download speeds really suck at that site, but I'm sure it will pick up and be as reliable as the old Rapidshare.de.

Got this email reply from RapidShare.de . . .

This is an automated reply. We hope it will answer most of the questions our customers have.

RapidShare.com and RapidShare.de are completely different companies. It is not possible to download files, use folders or collector's accounts from RapidShare.com at RapidShare.de.

Your RapidShare.com login is not valid on RapidShare.de. Your account at RapidShare.de will not be extended if you extend your account at RapidShare.com!

ÜberDork
November 30th, 2006, 01:03 AM
Weird in my opinion.I agree. It doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot.

First they (.de) give away tens of thousands free, 2-day accounts to spur activity and promise that we have plenty of capacity. Then all of a sudden they are full and the .com site comes into existence.

Now I see this on the .de site:

Unfortunately all drives of RapidShare.de are full right now. In the future, RapidShare.de's direction will point even more to conventional webhosting. This means that uploads will be possible again very soon, but only premium users with a paid account will be able to upload their files. Due to this changes, the premium-points feature has been cancelled completely.

I dunno what Rapidshare's problem is. Through torrents I've hit 100+ kb/s every now and then when uploading, but whenever I try uploading shit on Rapidshare I'm lucky to even hit 60+ kb/s.

Hello my friends !

I have one question for you.

Does one of you has at least once paid by credit card for a rapidshare premium account ? Is it safe ?

Can I trust rapidshare ?

I used to pay premium rapidshare account with an e-credit card (a credit card made for internet payment and proposed by my bank, a single use card), but it seems to not work anymore, so I'm hesitating to pay with my real credit card.

Thanks for your answer !

So it appears I cannot extend my account....it's sad !<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Neither my e-credit card or my real credit card numbers are working to afford a premium membership.
Maybe I was not clear in my first message, but I had not a paypal account, I used to pay Rapidshare simply with my e-credit card via Paypal (because it's Paypal who's in charge of the payment process between you and Rapidshare AG) and not with a paypal account.

So, since last year, three times on the run, I have extended my account, and now, I cannot anymore.

I think the problem is coming from the website page managed by paypal when you pay by credit card. I think their system has a problem when it checks your credit card number....because I have tried my e-credit card and my real credit card on other websites, and both are working perfectly well.

Maybe no one cares (lol), it was just to share my "experience" if someone else among us was facing the same issue.

For now, I have extended my account for one month thanks to the points I have collected. But in one month, if I face the same issue, I won't have any alternative...

Update on wiki 17:45 gmt

As of 19 January 2008 16:00 GMT, Rapidshare AG's servers were shutdown by anti-piracy authorities in Germany. More than hundreds of Rapidshare servers were seized from their offices in Berlin although no arrests were made. Sources said, authorities are contemplating pursuing legal action against users who distribute and download pirated copies of software and movies from these servers.

Issues

Some ISPs intentionally block sharing sites like RapidShare to make better use of bandwidth.

On 19 January 2007, news broke that German collections agency GEMA had claimed to have won a temporary injunction against both RapidShare.de and RapidShare.com. "The latter is said to have used copyright protected works of GEMA members in an unlawful fashion,".[4] To date RapidShare has claimed not to have any knowledge of the content uploaded by the users and of not being in a position to control the content. Through its injunctions the District Court in Cologne had now however made it clear to the company that the fact that it was the users and not the operator of the services that uploaded the content onto the sites did not, from a legal point of view, lessen the operator’s liability for copyright infringements that occurred within the context of the services, the spokesman added. Currently rapidshare is not working.

Both RapidShare.de and RapidShare.com sites are currently still operating and the consequences, if any, of the claimed injunction have yet to be seen. So far, they have not been sued.

Another Notice from RS: We are sorry for the problems caused by a major crash, at 5pm our servers went down by a massive d-dos attack, this made our server crash. The only way to solve this problem is by formatting all our storage (1,6 petabyte in total). We where able to restore rapidshare accounts but all files need to be reuploaded, Greetz Rs Staff

these are my infos from wikipedia:

As of 19 January 2008 16:00 GMT, Rapidshare's servers appear to be offline. There are rumors that Rapidshare has been shut down by the authorities after a court order, however, court records do not reveal any issued Rapidshare court order as of yet. Rapidshare technician Steven Gircham has commented on this issue - "There are rumors concerning attacks made on the Rapidshare.com servers. There are also rumors that Rapidshare has been shut down by a court order. These rumors are false. We would like to apologize to our users and inform them that no data has been lost. There have been some hardware issues as a result of high bandwidth and server overload. We are doing our very best to resolve the hardware issues, and users should expect uptime by midnight tonight (GMT)"

Furthermore, Rapidshare was forced to use a new anti-piracy tool which detects filenames, also within archives, and compares them to warez release announcement sites, torrent listings and eDonkey links. If the filenames match, the tool will automatically delete them. This tool will run for the next five hours to delete everything possible. Premium and Collector's accounts will not be lost, but no one will use them after nearly everything will be deleted (there are only less than 2% legal files hosted on the RapidShare servers).

this sounds the most credible ^^^

If there was a seizure there would probably be more actual news on this.

The antipiracy tool rumor sound like BS
(there are only less than 2% legal files hosted on the RapidShare servers).
I doubt even rapidshare knows how many legal files are on there servers. Furthermore suing millions of people globally is ludicrous. I wouldnt be surprised if all these news sites have reporters blowing this out of proportion for extra hits on their sites.

Hey, all.

Well, I was happy to pay the $10 subscription to these forums but it's a bummer to me that so many photo rars are through rapidshare, under a free account you use up your downloads pretty quickly and then have to wait a while.

So I have to get an account on rapidshare too to enjoy a lot of the photos on these forums? That's a bummer.

IMO, RS and HF still seem to be the preferred upload sites for nonporn related stuff, which is why I still have a RS premium. HF, SM and DF are in a fierce battle for domination in the porn area. I prefer neither of these hosting sites, they all have horrible download timers especially HF. MU is still one of the best, although not many people seem to use it, and so is MF. What I also like about MU is the option to stream or download movies.

As of June 29, 2010, RapidShare is changing its product and payment models. In future, the costs for RapidShare accounts will no longer be tiered according to time period; instead there will be five packages with differing features. These packages will be paid for with a new currency known as "Rapids". In order to grant our customers maximum flexibility when choosing the type of package, they will be able to switch between packages on a daily basis and hence select the features that suit them best at the time.
All previous Collector's accounts will be automatically converted into free Premium accounts on July 1, 2010, thus making it still possible to use the RapidShare service without charge.

In order to lift the download cap it suggest users to purchase a RapidPro account. Fuck that shit!
